Kate Foster is Head of Development at the Royal West of England Academy (RWA).

Kate has been working in fundraising and marketing for over 30 years now, having started her career in sponsorship at the Scottish Ballet and since then worked in marketing and fundraising in a variety of sectors.

Most recently, Kate and the RWA team have raised over £4.6m for the RWA’s Light & Inspiration capital project.  The work carried out, with funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, among many other funders and donors, has transformed the RWA’s austere Victorian building, welcoming 200% more visitors to the building and opening up access to non-traditional audiences.

As part of the NLHF funded project, the RWA uncovered more stories about its indomitable founder, Ellen Sharples and the role she played in empowering women artists in nineteenth-century Bristol.
