Helen Holland

Councillor Helen Holland was first elected to Bristol City Council in 1991, and has been re-elected eight times.

In May 2016 she was appointed by Mayor Marvin Rees as Cabinet Member for Place – which encompassed Economy, Energy, Planning and Property. She then became Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care in March 2017, and the responsibility for the Integrated Care System and also Women Safe City was added in September 2021.

Helen chairs the Bristol Health and Wellbeing Board, and also the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Integrated Care Partnership.

Helen has held many roles within the Council including Leader of the Council (2007 – 2009), leading Bristol’s first bid to the European Commission for Green Capital status. Her previous Cabinet roles include Environment, Transport and Leisure, and Partnerships and Regeneration.

After the referendum on the Mayoral system in May 2022, the Council established a cross-party Committee Model Working Group to develop the governance post May ‘24, and Helen Chaired the Working Group for the initial six month period, and remains a member.

Aside from her roles at Bristol City Council, Cllr Holland is a Regional Lead Peer for the Local Government Association.

Helen was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Bristol in August this year for her services to the city.
