Ali Smith explores companionship in its innumerable manifestations, as the world continues to change rapidly in her new novel, Companion Piece.

Companion Piece follows Smith’s dazzlingly original seasonal quartet of novels – Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer – written and published between 2016 and 2020, and providing near real-time commentary on #MeToo, Brexit, the refugee crisis and a global pandemic.

Smith discusses companionship in all its timeless, legendary and shapeshifting forms with literary journalist Suzi Feay.
